To mark its 30th anniversary in 2010, style title i-D has collaborated with Nick Knight and SHOWstudio on an exclusive photographic project.

The two media platforms are creating a portfolio of 100 portraits of a host of stylists, editors, models, actors, photographers and musicians, which mirrors the 100 portraits created by Nick Knight for the fifth anniversary of i-D in 1985; the models include Kate Moss, Naomi Campbell, Alexander McQueen, Christopher Kane, Gareth Pugh, Florence And The Machine and Leona Lewis. The shoot takes place at Somerset House from December 1 until December 20, as part of the exhibition SHOWstudio: Fashion Revolution. Nick Knight will also be working in the Live Studio at Somerset House in front of a two-way mirror, allowing exhibition-goers to watch throughout. The feature will run in i-D in 2010, and the progress of the shoot will be documented live on showstudio.com, with photographs from each day showcased in a gallery adjacent to the Live Studio.

And you can follow any updates on Twitter and watch Nick Knight in his live studio here.

From the SHOWstudio exhibition at Somerset House.
I used to sigh with disdain as friends talked passionately of Gareth Pugh and his ‘creative genius’. As far I was concerned, Mr.Pugh was nothing but an arbiter of style without substance a sensationalist non-art artist or something to that effect. Then I saw this at Nick Knights SHOWstudio exhibition and happily ate my words.

This visionary delight is of Pughs Autumn/Winter 09 collection; a creative collaboration with film maker Ruth Hogben which originally showcased at Paris Fashion Week. Put simply, it’s just beautiful.
In conjunction with the 25th anniversary of London Fashion Week, Nick Knight’s current project ‘Showstudio’ opened its Fashion Revolution exhibition doors to the public at Somerset House this week. With the intent of embracing the ever-intensifying power and influence of the Internet within the industry, this exhibition adopts new and somewhat unexplored techniques in playfully allowing the public to experience the creative process of some of fashion’s top players, of blurring the line between the ‘exclusiveness’ of fashion and the general public. Wide-eyed punters are given the chance to draw on a 21ft Naomi Campbell, listen on the telephone to supermodels Lily Donaldson and Karen Elson and see candid (and somewhat unflattering) photographs of the fashion industry’s elite. There’s also a photography studio that is to be used once a week by Nick Knight himself as he does live photo shoots within the exhibition. There’s a two-way mirror running along one wall, enabling the public to stand and watch the process of a legendary photographer at work. The entire exhibition makes for a facinating viewing and really is revolutionary in that it completely draws you in and enables you to play with fashion. Running from now till December at Somerset house, tickets cost £5. You can also take part in some of the interactive aspects of the exhibition online.
